Elephant Hill Trail Development & Habitat Enhancement
Bellfree Contractors partnered with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) to develop a new recreational trail system within Elephant Hill Open Space, expanding public access and enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities for the surrounding community.
The project included the construction of approximately 3,500 linear feet of sustainable multi-use trail connecting Pullman Street and Lathrop Street. Designed to blend with the natural landscape, the trail system improves connectivity while promoting long-term durability and environmental stewardship.
Additional improvements included the installation of 87 timber box steps, placement of landscape boulders for trail definition and erosion control, native tree planting, interpretive and wayfinding signage, post-and-rail fencing, pedestrian access points, and vehicular swing gates. Completed in multiple phases, the project incorporated sustainable trail design practices, drainage and erosion control measures, and habitat enhancement features to protect natural resources while improving the visitor experience.
The completed trail system provides safe, accessible, and enjoyable access to Elephant Hill Open Space, creating a lasting recreational asset that balances environmental preservation with high-quality public infrastructure.
